Establishing an excellent Twitter campaign is more than just a few followers and "retweets." It's about creating a broad web of interlaced companies and people who are connected. Instead of maintaining in the internal network of basically connected companies, it is critical to branch out and think outside of the internal factors. What are the external companies and/or people who can also be affiliated with the main accounts? It may take a little bit of thinking outside the box, but there are endless possibilities of connections to think about when running a campaign via Twitter. Using a social networking site isn't simply just conversing with one another. It's more about broadening our ideas as a company, sharing them with the people on the network, and staying finely tuned in with what our people of interest are watching and talking about. Basically, we want to know what is on the minds of our people!

How do you find  those "external" accounts that can help expand the web of united people? Well, consider the following:

  • Who are you interested in? What companies and/or people spike your interest?

Researching possible affiliates and "following" them help diffuse all the information that you want to see be advanced throughout the web. Once you follow someone, which companies/people are suggested to you? Who are the people that they are already following? It's very likely that within their list of "followers" there is another user that will be of your interest. For our Union Bindings account, we want people to know what we're doing, who we're watching, and who we like. In order to do this, we want to follow the people who are affiliated with Union. Pro boarders like Danny Kass, Gigi Ruf, and TJ Schneider, for example, are making their mark on our Twitter news feed. Maybe Ruf just posted a new video from a boarding trip in Austria or Danny Kass is talking about a Grenade event. We're even interested in TJ Schneider's art collection. Even though none of these posts are about Union Bindings, we want to expand our relationship with these affiliates, because they are in one way or another, associated with Union and therefore, we want to know more about them!

  • What are your fellow followers talking about?

Companies and people are constantly posting videos, pictures, links, etc. on the home page timeline. These posts are helpful when trying to find new information and people due to the "@mentions" and retweets that make interlacing data possible. Explore the posts that these people are making. Who are these people interested in? Whatever your affiliates are interested in, you should also consider being interested in it too! This also helps create a tighter bond between you and your fellow tweeters, since you would obviously be sharing the same interests and ideas. Are our boarders talking about some gear they just grabbed? We want to know what they are wearing, from goggles to jackets to snowboards. After all, Union is a binding company, so we still want to be in contact with the other gear that our people are picking up. Why? Because it's what THEY are interested in, and we want to share any connections with them that we can.

  • What are other ways to stay informed via Twitter?

Following magazines is another great way to strengthen your campaign. Magazines feature everything you need to know about a certain topic. For example, Snowboarder and Transworld magazines contain everything you would want to see, know, and read about snowboarding. Everything including gear, locations, riders, events, and trick tips, magazines hold a wide variety of information that is interesting to the reader. That is why being a follower of magazines on Twitter is crucial to being informed about so many topics. Snowboarder magazine's twitter page is loaded with product updates, streaming video, and links to other companies and people who their followers would be interested in. It's the perfect opportunity to consider yourself informed.

At a glance, the Twitter network doesn't seem to posses many possibilities for internet marketers and their clients. However, with creative thinking and company/people researching, you can create such a large web of affiliated Tweeters and followers to secure your name's place in the social networking world. Most importantly, as a Twitter user you can gain a ton of knowledge pertaining to whatever information you are interested in. Once you are familiar with the moods and interests of other users, you can interact with more people, more often, more proficiently. Social networking is a great way to perform mass communicating while creating an image for yourself or your company.
